WOMEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO N0. 30 FLAGLER

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Despite taking two of out of three matches in doubles action, the Saint Leo women’s tennis team (7-9) dropped their match with nationally-ranked Flagler College 6-3, Thursday evening from the SLU Tennis Center.

The Lions had a tremendous doubles performance, taking two of out of three matches. Jeannette McDonald and Shaena Keefe powered themselves past their opponents at the No. 2 doubles spot winning 8-2. Meanwhile, Gina Schifano and Taylor Cleaves made quick work of their opponents at the No. 3 spot as they were 8-4 victors.

The tables turned on the Lions in singles play, as they struggled to come up with enough wins to threaten the Saints. Their only victory of the day came at No. 1 singles as Lina Benkirane upended de Cuba in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.

The loss snaps the Lions six-match win streak.

SLU looks to get back on the winning track on Monday, March 23 as they take on Northwood (MI) from the SLU Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
