ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − The Saint Leo University men’s soccer team tied with Flagler College 2-2 in a double overtime road match Tuesday night. Both teams, ranked seventh and eighth in the South Region poll respectively, now have a record of 4-2-1 for the season.
Flagler was first to get on the scoreboard in the contest with a shot 15 yards from the top right corner of the box made by the Saints’ Fredrik Ericsson who was also responsible for the hosts’ second goal to put FC up 2-1.
Saint Leo’s senior go-to forward Eusebio Montoya recorded both of the Lion goals, the second being a direct kick with ten minutes remaining to tie the game. Lions’ sophomore goalkeeper Griffin Pharr tallied five total saves.
The game’s intangibles saw the Lions outshoot the Saints 20-13 as Saint Leo fought for a well-deserved tie.
The Lions return to conference action Saturday, September 27 with a showdown against Florida Tech in Melbourne. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. The game is also scheduled to broadcast live on the SaintLeoLions Audiocast Network.
