SAINT LEO UNIVERSITY BASEBALL TEAM DEFEATS ROLLINS COLLEGE 9-1 FOR FOURTH WIN IN LAST FIVE GAMES

Winter Park, Fla. (April 15, 2008) – The Saint Leo University baseball team (26-16) defeated Rollins College (24-18-1) by a score of 9-1 on Tuesday night in a non-conference game at Alfond Stadium in Winter Park, Fla.  The Lions won for the fourth time in the last five outings and improved to 6-6 on the road this season.

Saint Leo was led by junior SS Bobby Munoz (Tampa, Fla.) who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, while freshman Anthony Santa (Land O’Lakes, Fla.) was 2-for-2 with two runs and three walks in the game.  RF J.C. Suarez (So., Tampa, Fla.) was also 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored.

Santi Arencibia (So., Key West, Fla.) was credited with the win, improving to 2-0 on the season.  Arencibia went three innings in relief of starter Dale Slimick (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.) and allowed one run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Rollins starter Danny Clark carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but after hitting leadoff batter Jonathan Duncan (Jr., Starke, Fla.) he gave up the first hit of the game to Santa and was removed from the game.  The Lions got on the board one batter later, as Braulio Pardo (Jr., Land O’Lakes, Fla.) delivered the first run of the game on a sacrifice bunt.  The Lions added three more runs in the inning with RBI singles from Kyle Hobbs (Jr., Dade City, Fla.) and Munoz,

The Tars scored one run in the bottom of the seventh, despite having the bases loaded with no outs.  Arencibia was able to work out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts and a fly out to end the inning.

The Lions opened up a big lead in the eighth with five runs on four hits, including a two-run single by Suarez.  Munoz also delivered a two-run single in the inning.

Saint Leo will host the University of Tampa this weekend in a Sunshine State Conference three-game series.  The teams will meet Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
