SAINT LEO MEN’S TENNIS DEFEATS UNIVERSITY OF WEST ALABAMA 5-4

Saint Leo, Fla. (March 28, 2008) – The Saint Leo men’s tennis (3-9) team took down the University of West Alabama Tigers Friday afternoon at the SLU Tennis Center by the score of 5-4.

Saint Leo jumped out to a fast start sweeping doubles competition from the Tigers. The duo of Brandon Stacey (Sr., Galesburg, Ill.) and Saif Noorsumar (Sr., Karachi, Pakistan) wasted no time in defeating the Tigers No.1 pair of Brandon Harris and Wes Yarnton 8-3. The Lions No.2 tandom of David Farinez (Sr., Puerto Orvaz, Venezuela) and Diego Timoteo (So., Brazil) rolled past the West Alabama pair of Denton Meinstes and Lucas Nunes 8-4. In third seed action, Pablo Chavez (Fr., Margarite, Venezuela) and Michael DelPriore (Sr., Englewood, Fla.) triumphed over the Tigers Carlin Tighe and Lucas Cruz.

The three points the Lions picked up in doubles action turned out to be crucial because SLU only took two of the six singles matches. The Lions No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots were the only two who came out victorious, but were the two points necessary to give the Lions their third win of the season. No.1 singles player Chavez took three to finish off his opponent, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Stacey made quick work of his opponent in the fifth and deciding match taking down the Tigers No.2 Harris 6-2, 6-2.
