SAINT LEO MEN’S TENNIS SWEPT BY ROLLINS IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

Saint Leo, Fla. (February 28, 2008) – The Saint Leo men’s tennis team (1-7, 0-3) was swept by the No. 10 Rollins College Tars in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon at the SLU Tennis Center, 9-0.

The Lions played tough in their singles and the duo of Brandon Stacey (Sr., Galesburg, Ill) and Saif Noorsumar (SR., Karachi, Pakistan) proved to be the toughest challenge for the Tars. Stacey and Noorsumar gave the Tars top doubles pair all they could handle but couldn’t pull out the victory, as they fell 8-5.

In singles action, Pablo Chavez (Fr. Margarita, Venezuela) was the bright star for the Lions. Chavez dropped the first set to the Tars top seeded player No. 45 Brian Compton, 6-2. Chavez rallied back in the second set, outlasting Compton to 6-4. The freshman eventually fell though, 10-3 in the third-set tiebreaker.
