SAINT LEO SOFTBALL STARTS SEASON 6-0 AFTER SWEEP OF WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY

Saint Leo, Fla. (February 19, 2008) – The Saint Leo University softball team (6-0) won their sixth consecutive game to start the 2008 regular season as they defeated the Webber International University Warriors 10-0 in game one and 11-2 in game two. In game one, Ashley Urbanik (Jr., Riverview, Fla. ) threw her second consecutive no-hitter and Ally Maddox (Jr., Brandon, Fla.) launching two home runs to solidify the Lions game one victory. Monique Dominguez Sr., LaPuente, Calif.) followed that up with two home runs herself in game two and her grand slam in the bottom of the sixth closed the door on the Warriors.

The Lions once again received dominant pitching out of Ashley Urbanik (4-0) who tossed her second no-hitter in as many games. Urbanik went five innings while not surrendering a hit, striking out eight, and walking four. Ally Maddox and Shelley Bartlett (Sarasota, Fla.) provided much of the scoring offense on the evening for the Lions. Maddox went 2-for-3 in game one, belting her second and third home runs of the 2008 campaign. Bartlett hit her second home run in two game over the left field fence Tuesday evening as she totaled two hits in three at bats and driving in three runs. Elysha Agen (Palm Harbor, Fla.) also picked up two hits in game one while scoring twice.

Game two featured more of the long ball. The Lions hit four more home runs in game number two to push their streak to four consecutive mercy rule games. Senior Monique Dominguez led the way for the Lions in game two going 2-for-3, with six RBI, including a walk-off grand slam deep over the left field batting cages. Heather Stroud also hit a two-run home run for the Lions on the evening as she drove home Ally Maddox. Prior to the Dominguez blast, Urbanik gave the ball a ride over the left center field fence to drive two more runs home. Kiki VonHolt (2-0) (Sr., New Port Richey, Fla.) picked up the win for the Lions as she threw four innings giving up four hits, and only one earned run. The Lions hit seven total home runs on the evening.

The Lions head to Clearwater, Fla. this Friday, February 22, to take part in the Eckerd College Triton tournament. The Lions take on Nova Southeastern at 4:30 p.m. followed by Palm Beach Atlantic at 7:00 p.m
