SAINT LEO UNIVERSITY BASEBALL TEAM DEFEATS PALM BEACH ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY 8-2

Saint Leo, Fla. (February 15, 2008) – Left-handed pitcher Ryan Clark (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) struck out 11 and allowed just one hit in 6.1 innings of work, leading the Saint Leo University baseball team (5-3) to an 8-2 win over visiting Palm Beach Atlantic University (1-8)  at Southard Stadium Friday night.

Following the solid start by Clark, reliever Santi Arencibia (So., Key West, Fla.) threw the final 2.2 innings to wrap up a solid pitching performance for the Lions.

Lion batters provided plenty of offense to give Clark (1-2) his first win of the 2008 season.  Senior 1B Brandin Daniel (Punta Gorda, Fla.) went 2-for-3 with three RBI, a home run and one run scored, while SS Bobby Munoz (Jr., Tampa, Fla.) also delivered his second homer of the season in the contest.  Munoz was 2-for-3 in the contest, while Kyle Hobbs (Jr., Dade City, Fla.) was also 2-for-3.

Saint Leo scored runs in each of the first five innings, including a three-run first inning in which Yunior Tabares (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) hit an RBI double and Daniel also delivered a an RBI single with a Texas leaguer over the third baseman’s head.

The Lions added two more runs in the second, as Daniel hit a sacrifice fly and 2B Aaron McLamar (Jr., Hudson, Fla.) delivered his fourth RBI single in the last two games.  An RBI double by Hobbs provided the only run in the third, while Daniel and Munoz had solo home runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively to round out the scoring.

PBA got on the board in the top of the ninth with a two-run home run by 1B Tony Livelsberger.

Saint Leo and Palm Beach Atlantic will round out their three-game series tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Southard Stadium.
