SAINT LEO LACROSSE TEAM CLOSES REGULAR SEASON WITH 16-9 LOSS TO ST. ANDREWS PRESBYTERIAN

Clinton, S.C. (April 15, 2007)Ryan Harris (Sr., Vestal, N.Y.) scored five goals but it was not enough, as the Saint Leo University lacrosse team (7-7, 2-2 DSC) fell 16-9 to St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Sunday afternoon in a game played at Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C.

Chris Storrie (So., Syracuse, N.Y.) also registered two goals and two assists in the game for the Lions who led 5-2 after the opening period.  However, Saint Andrews Presbyterian shutout SLU in the second quarter 4-0 to take a 6-5 lead at half-time.

The Knights then outscored the Lions by three in each of the final two quarters to secure the win.  Overall, St. Andrews Presbyterian outscored Saint Leo 14-4 in the final three quarters of the game.

The game marked the final regular season contest for the Lions who will now enter the Deep South Conference Tournament for the first time in program history.  Saint Leo will face Wingate University in the conference semifinals on Friday at 5:00 p.m. at Catawba College’s Shuford Stadium.

Saint Leo defeated Wingate earlier this season 6-5 in double-overtime for the Lions’ first-ever DSC victory.  Harris scored the game-winning goal with 3:08 left to play in the contest.
