SAINT LEO LACROSSE TEAM SECURES SPOT IN DEEP SOUTH CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT WITH 13-10 WIN OVER PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE

Clinton, S.C. (April 14, 2007)Ryan Harris (Sr., Vestal, N.Y.) and Benjamin Brigham (So., Scituate, Mass.) scored four goals and added two assists each to lead the Saint Leo University lacrosse team (7-6, 2-2 DSC) to a 13-10 win over Presbyterian College (3-11, 0-4 DSC) on Saturday afternoon.

The victory secured a place in the Deep South Conference Tournament where the Lions will meet Wingate University in the first of Friday’s semifinals, which will be held at Catawba’s Shuford Stadium  Catawba College will face Mars Hill College in the other semifinal.

In addition to Harris and Brigham’s scoring output, sophomore Chris Storrie (Syracuse, N.Y.) added three goals and two assists in the win.  Brady Juelson (Jr., Palm Coast, Fla.) and Mark Dargon (So., Newton, Mass.) also registered goals in the victory.

The Lions opened the scoring with two goals in the opening four minutes, but Presbyterian bounced back to make a 2-1 game with 6:32 left in the opening period.  SLU scored the next three goals before PC closed the gap to 5-3 by scoring with just three-seconds remaining in the first quarter.

The Blue Hose then outscored the Lions 4-1 in the second to send the teams to the half-time locker room with the score tied 6-6.

A low scoring third period saw the Lions head into the final period with a slim 8-7 lead.  Presbyterian tied the score with the first goal of the fourth, but the Lions responded by scoring the next four goals.  The Blue Hose closed the gap to two at 12-10 with 5:14 left, but Harris scored his fourth goal of the game to seal the win and send the Lions into the post-season.

Saint Leo will round out its regular season tomorrow with a game against St. Andrews Presbyterian College at 2:00 p.m.  The game will be played at Presbyterian College.
