Saint Leo, Fla. (March 6, 2007) – The Saint Leo University softball team (6-10) swept a doubleheader with Salem International University (0-12) on Tuesday night at University Field. The Lions won game one 7-1 before taking game two 10-0 in five innings.
Saint Leo was led by Hayley Mallory (Sr., Plant City, Fla.), Alison Flynn (Sr., Miami, Fla.) and Shelly Bartlett (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.) who each had three-hits on the night. Mallory and Flynn added two RBI apiece, while Bartlett had one RBI in the two-game set. Flynn and Ally Maddox (So., Brandon, Fla.) both homered in the doubleheader.
The Lions got a pair of excellent performances on the mound. Sophomore Ashley Urbanik (Riverview, Fla.) got the win in game one with a complete-game two-hitter. She allowed just one unearned run and struck out 10. Urbanik evened her record at 5-5 with the victory.
Junior Kiki VonHolt (New Port Richey, Fla.) then followed with a one-hit gem, as she allowed only an infield single in the five-inning win. The win was the first of the season for the right-hander (1-5).
Saint Leo is back in action tomorrow at home against Palm Beach Atlantic University. Start time for the doubleheader has been pushed forward to 4:00 p.m.
