SAINT LEO BASEBALL TEAM FALLS 6-0 TO VALDOSTA STATE

Valdosta, Ga. (February 28, 2007) - The Saint Leo baseball team (8-6) fell 6-0 to Valdosta State University (12-8) on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.

Sean VanGuilder (Sr., Tallahassee, Fla.) and Yunior Tabares (Jr., Tampa, Fla.) both went 2-for-4 but the Lions were unable to push any runs across the plate, as they fell to the Blazers for the second time in two weeks.

VSU did all of its scoring in the sixth and seventh innings, as the game was scoreless early on.  The Blazers scored four runs in the sixth and added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh, as pitchers John Sermon and Luke Taylor combined for the shutout.  Eric Nickolaison (So., Spring Hill, Fla.) was saddled with the loss (1-1) for the Lions after Charlie Blume (Jr., St. Louis, Mo.) allowed no runs and just two hits in five innings of work.

Saint Leo returns home on Sunday for a doubleheader against St. Anselm College (noon).  The two teams will wrap up a three-game series on Monday night with a single game beginning at 7:00 p.m.
