Melbourne, Fla. (February 21, 2007) – The Saint Leo University softball team (1-6, 0-1 SSC) was edged 5-4 by Florida Tech (8-9, 1-0 SSC) in both teams’ Sunshine State Conference opener on Wednesday night.
Tech got an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap off a rally from an early 4-0 deficit and pick up the win.
Saint Leo had jumped to an early lead with a four-run first inning. Ashley Urbanik (So., Riverview, Fla.) got the scoring started with a bases loaded two-run double. Two more runs scored on a throwing error by Tech pitcher Judith Husband.
The Panthers began their rally with a three-run third inning and tied the score with a single run in the fifth. Ashley Lugo then delivered the game-winning RBI double in the seventh, scoring Latie Naumoff from second with the winning run.
The two teams will face off again tomorrow in a doubleheader to conclude their three-game series. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
