Saint Leo, Fla. (February 13, 2007) – The Saint Leo baseball team (2-3) lost 12-2 to visiting Valdosta State University (6-2) on Tuesday night in a non-conference game at Southard Stadium.
Jerry Gonzalez (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) was the only Lion to register a multiple-hit game, as he went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Valdosta State’s Rance Morgan and Richard Flores both had 3 RBI in the win for the Blazers. VSU totaled 15 total hits as a team and limited Saint Leo to three hits for the night.
Valdosta State jumped out to a big lead early on, as the Blazers scored eight runs in the opening inning to put the game out of reach. Despite a run in the bottom of the first for the Lions, VSU added a single run in the second and two more in the third to take an 11-1 advantage and never looked back.
Saint Leo returns to the diamond on Friday night when the Lions begin a three-game series against Palm Beach Atlantic University. The teams will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a noon doubleheader scheduled for Saturday.
