SAINT LEO BASEBALL TEAM FALLS 7-0 TO BARRY UNIVERSITY IN FINAL GAME OF THREE-GAME SERIES

Saint Leo, Fla. (February 11, 2007) – The Saint Leo baseball team (2-2) fell 7-0 to Barry University (3-3) in the final game of a three-game series on Sunday at Southard Stadium.

Saint Leo batters were unable to solve Barry starting right-hander David Bernat who went seven shutout innings and allowed just three hits while striking out seven.  Bernat improved to 1-0 with the victory, while Saint Leo starter Carter Clements (Jr., Eustis, Fla.) was credited with the loss, as he allowed four runs, two earned, and struck out seven in 6.2 innings.

Lions’ designated hitter Zac Caito (Fr., Warrenton, Va.) managed to go 2-for-3 against Bernat, but the Lions were unable to push any runs across the plate.

Barry got on the board in the second inning when Brian Martinez delivered a two-run home run over the left field fence.  That was all Bernat would need, as the Bucs added a pair of runs in the seventh and sealed the win with a three-run eighth inning.

Saint Leo will host Valdosta State University on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. in their next contest.
