Tampa, Fla. (January 3, 2007) – The Saint Leo women’s basketball team (2-10, 0-2 SSC) fell 65-53 on the road to the University of Tampa (8-4, 1-1 SSC) on Wednesday evening at the Bob Martinez Sports Center.

Tampa center Sheena Walton scored 20 points to lead all scorers, as UT won its third straight.  Meanwhile, Saint Leo forward Marquita Fenn (Jr., Ft. Pierce, Fla.) scored a team-high 14 points in defeat for the Lions who lost their sixth straight.

SLU scored the opening four points of the game but was unable to maintain its advantage, as Tampa answered with four points of its own to tie the score early on.  The score was tied twice before a 9-0 run helped UT head to the locker room with a 37-25 lead at the half.

UT carried that momentum into the second half, as the home team opened with a 17-2 run to build its largest lead of the game at 27 points.  The Lions put together an 18-3 run in the second half but could get no closer than 10 points down the stretch.

Saint Leo will have a week off before its next contest when the Lions will host Eckerd College in another SSC game on Wednesday, January 10 at 5:30 p.m.
