SAINT LEO MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM EDGED 80-75 BY VISITING ECKERD COLLEGE IN SUNSHINE STATE CONFERENCE GAME

Saint Leo, Fla. (January 10, 2007) – The Saint Leo University men’s basketball team (7-6, 1-2 SSC) had its four-game winning streak ended with an 80-75 setback against visiting Eckerd College (11-3, 2-2 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference game on Wednesday night.

Four Eckerd players scored in double figures to help the visiting Tritons knock off the Lions.  SLU was led by freshman Jordan Prais (Lakeland, Fla.) who scored in double figures for the fifth straight game with a team-high 16 points.  Eckerd senior Matt Cenatus led all scorers with 17 points on the night.

The game was close early on with both sides holding leads, and neither team leading by more than seven points in the opening frame.

In the second half, Eckerd put together a pair of key runs and eventually opened up the largest lead of the night at 18 points midway through the half.  However, the Lions came roaring back on the strength of a 19-2 run, holding the Tritons without a field goal for almost six minutes and cutting the deficit to one.

The visitors used a 6-1 spurt to open a six-point lead with 40-secondsleft, and after Saint Leo closed to within three with six-ticks remaining Damone Morris hit a pair of free throws to ice the game.

Saint Leo will host Florida Tech in another SSC game on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
