SAINT LEO UNIVERSITY WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM FALLS 1-0 ON THE ROAD TO ROLLINS COLLEGE IN SSC MATCH

Winter Park, Fla. (September 26, 2006) – The Saint Leo University women’s soccer team (7-2-1, 2-2 SSC) fell 1-0 on the road to Rollins College (8-2, 2-0 SSC) on Tuesday night in Winter Park, Fla.

A 49th minute goal by Rollins midfielder Melissa Saint James was the only goal of the match, as the Tars posted their fourth shutout of the season.  Saint James was the quickest to react when a Lindsay Giblin free kick was saved but not held by Saint Leo goalkeeper Lauren Hudson (So., Odessa, Fla.)

The game was even throughout the opening half, as both sides failed to find the breakthrough goal.  SLU midfielder Sara Macko (Fr., Brandon, Fla.) had an effort from a free kick brilliantly saved by Rollins ‘keeper Stephanie Woelfel and another Saint Leo opportunity from Jennifer O’Connor (Jr., Fernandina Beach, Fla.) was blocked by Rollins’ defender Ericka Mohr.

Rollins turned up the pressure in the second half and eventually found what proved to be the game-winner in the 49th minute.

Saint Leo will return home this weekend for another SSC match, as Nova Southeastern will visit University Field on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.  The night will mark Youth Club Night and all girls youth soccer players wearing their team jersey will earn free entry into the game along with their parents.

The game against NSU will also be broadcast on the SLU Athletics Audiocast Network.  Visit SaintLeoLions.com for “Listen Live” links.
