SAINT LEO MEN’S SOCCER TEAM FALLS 2-0 IN SSC OPENER AT TOP-RANKED LYNN UNIVERSITY

Boca Raton, Fla. (September 17, 2006) - The Saint Leo University men's soccer team (4-4, 0-1 SSC) fell 2-0 on the road at top-ranked Lynn University (6-0, 1-0 SSC) in the SSC opener for both sides on Sunday.

A goal either side of half-time by Lynn forward Gabe Taboada gave the Fighting Knights the win, as midfielder Carl Wallace assisted on both strikes.

Taboada gave the home side the 1-0 lead in the 10th minute when Wallace picked up the ball in the midfield and then slipped a pass through the Saint Leo defense before Taboada latched onto it and slotted beyond goalkeeper Sam Luedke (Jr., Deltona, Fla.).

The Lions fought back late in the first half and nearly equalized on a couple of occasions.  Forward Asmir Pervan (Sr., Simmern, Germany) hit the post and then fired a shot into the side netting.  Midfielder Tommy Poston (Sr., Birmingham, England) also went close when his free kick effort hit the post from 23-yeards out.

In the second half, Lynn maintained their edge and eventually doubled its lead in the 53rd minute.  Again Wallace played Taboada behind the Saint Leo defense and the forward made no mistake to give the Knights the 2-0 win.

Saint Leo will return to action on Saturday, September 23 when the Lions will host the University of Tampa in another SSC affair.  Opening kick-off for the game is slated for 7:00 p.m. at University Field.
