SAINT LEO WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM COMES UP SHORT IN 73-68 LOSS TO GEORGIA SOUTHWESTERN STATE UNIVERSITY

Saint Leo, Fla. (December 30, 2006) – The Saint Leo women's basketball team (2-9) came up short in a 73-68 loss to visiting Georgia Southwestern State University (2-5) on Saturday at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.

SLU guard Melissa Guerero (So., Trinidad & Tobago) led the Lions with 15 points, but four Hurricane players scored in double figures to lead the visitors to their second straight win.

Saint Leo trailed throughout the contest, as the visiting Hurricanes pushed their lead to as many as 19 points.  However, a late rally brought the Lions to within four points with 18-seconds remaining.  Overall, the Lions put together a 19-6 run during the late rally but were unable to inch any closer in the closing seconds.

GSW shot 43.5% (27-of-62) for the game, and was led by Jamiliah Sharp and Brittany Reynolds who each recorded double-doubles.

Saint Leo returns to action on Wednesday, January 3 when it travels to Tampa, Fla. to face the University of Tampa in SSC play.  Opening tip is slated for 5:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on the Internet.  Visit SaintLeoLions.com for “Listen Live” links.
