Head Coach Peter McGahey was named the program’s fourth head coach in the Saint Leo women’s soccer 19-year history in January 2019. The Covid-19 pandemic has shortened McGahey and the Lions’ time competing at the Saint Leo Soccer Field. In 2019, the Green and Gold captured a 7-9-1 overall record, going 4-6 in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC).

Coaching History
McGahey joined the Lions after a six-year stint at Central Michigan University. He amassed a 124-76-25 record as head coach at Minnesota State, Mankato and Central Michigan. McGahey has guided his programs to 10 NSCAA Team Academic Awards and four NCAA postseason appearances. He led his Mavericks to back-to-back 17 win seasons in 2011 and 2012 and recorded his best season of 15-3-3 with the Chippewas in 2016, which saw CMU fall in the Mid-American Conference Semifinals to Kent State.
Under his guidance at MSU-M and CMU, McGahey has coached 119 All-Conference Academic honorees, 47 All-Conference selections, 19 Regional honorees, four All-Americans (NSCAA), three Scholar All-American (NSCAA), three CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America selections, two Daktronics All-Americans as well as leading the Minnesota State, Mankato Mavericks to three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference titles. In 2012, McGahey guided the Mavericks to the Elite 8 after advancing over Central Missouri 1-1, 5-4 in penalty kicks. MSU ended its historic season in a 5-4 PK loss to Grand Valley State after a 2-2 regulation and overtime battle.
Personal History
A Denver, Colo. native, McGahey holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees, from the University of Denver a B.A. in Communication and from Metropolitan State College of Denver, a B.A. in Human Performance and Sport. He received his Masters of Arts in Physical Education (Coaching) from Ball State University and most recently his Doctorate of Education (Educational Leadership) from Minnesota State University, Mankato. McGahey was a four-year player on the men's varsity soccer team at the University of Denver from 1992-96.
