Saint Leo, 16-8 against DII overall, 11-6 against South Region Opponents, holds its highest ranking in the region since 2013. The Lions are 17-8 in 2015, but Embry-Riddle is a provisional Division II opponent and therefore does not count toward regional rankings.
The South Region is comprised of schools from the Sunshine State Conference (SSC), Gulf South (GSC) and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), along with several Division II independents, one of which is Palm Beach Atlantic, who is in its first season as a provisional member of the SSC.
Reigning Division II National Champion Tampa headlines the first South Regional rankings as the Spartans are 20-4 overall and 15-1 in region. UT, who is tied for fifth in this week's latest AVCA Division II Coaches' Poll, suffered its only loss in region to Lynn in five sets in Boca Raton on Oct. 24.
UT is followed in the initial rankings at No. 2 by Palm Beach Atlantic (21-3 overall, 19-2 in-region).
Florida Southern follows the Lions in fourth (19-6 overall, 12-6 in-region), West Florida (22-5 overall, 16-3 in-region) falls fifth, while Eckerd (13-10 overall, 9-8 in-region) is sixth and North Alabama (21-6 overall, 18-5 in-region) is at No. 7.
The final three teams in the rankings are Valdosta State (19-5 overall, 19-5 in-region) at No. 8, while Barry (11-9 overall, 11-9 in-region) is at No. 9 and Nova Southeastern (16-9 overall, 13-9 in-region) rounds out the rankings at No. 10.
