SAINT LEO, Fla. – Head Cross Country Coach Melissa Miller has announced the men’s and women’s 2010 regular season schedule. Nine races are on tap for each squad, including a trio of events during the months of September and October. The teams will round-out their 2010 slate with the Sunshine State Conference Championships in November, and the NCAA South Region sprint in efforts of making the NCAA Championships in December.

“With added front runners and depth to our program, we look to compete against tough conference schools and nationally ranked teams,” said Miller.

The two rosters kick-off their 2010 seasons on Friday, September 3 when they travel to Tampa to partake in the Early Bird Classic hosted by the University of Tampa. One week later (Sept. 11), the groups travel cross state to Melbourne, Fla. to compete in the Florida Tech Invite, before making the journey to Gainesville, Fla. to run in The University of Florida’s Mountain Dew Invitational on September 18.

Next on the race calendar is the meet on October 1 from Titusville, Fla. Shortly after, Orlando, Fla. will act as host to Lions at the Disney Classic on October 9.  The final regular season event takes place on October 22 when Saint Leo travels to Lakeland, Fla. to participate in the Florida Southern Invitational.

Next, the postseason portion of the schedule takes center stage as the Lions compete in the Sunshine State Conference Championships on November 6 from Melbourne, Fla. From there, SLU will prepare for the NCAA South Region race on November 20 at a yet to be determined location with intentions on running in the NCAA Championships on December 4 in Louisville.

Miller is excited for the upcoming slate of races and feels the early meet in Melbourne will be beneficial to her team’s success. “One benefit to the schedule is that our group of runners will gain early season race experience at our conference championship course.” said Miller, “This will be beneficial to each runner as we make a push towards our best finish at the SSC’s.”

Stay tuned to for more on both the men’s and women’s cross country teams throughout the training and championship seasons.
