GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Saint Leo men’s cross country team finished 12th at the Mountain Dew Invitational Saturday morning in Gainesville, Fla. Sophomore Javier Beuzeville (Tampa, Fla.) once again led the Lions individually crossing the line 25th of 139 runners with a time of 26:24.09. The Lions finished with a team score of 325 points and clocked in with a final time of 2:40:35.09.
Buezeville made a statement as one of the top runners in the conference, as only three other conference runners finished in front of him. Buezeville paced himself with throughout the race finishing less than two minutes behind the winner of the meet.
Matt Attal (Tampa, Fla.) was the next Lion to finish, crossing the tape with a time of 30:02.25 and Carson Holton (Tampa, Fla.) finished with a time 31:35.71.
SLU also had two other runners gut out a tremendous performance, as Travis VanBuren (Dade City, Fla.) and Matthew Crosta added to the Lions team total.
Sunshine State Conference opponents Nova Southeastern University and the University of Tampa also competed finishing fourth and fifth respectively. The University of Florida won the meet handedly finishing nine minutes in front of North Florida and ten minutes in front of Florida International.
The Lions stride to their final regular season event before the SSC Championships, at the Disney Invitational from Orlando, Fla. The race is scheduled to begin at 7:45 a.m.
