Sunrise, Fla. (October 21, 2006) – The Saint Leo University men’s and women’s cross country teams both finished sixth at the 2006 Sunshine State Conference Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships held at Markham Park in Sunrise, Fla. on Saturday.
The Lions men had a team total of 164, while the women totaled 167 in the conference meet hosted by Nova Southeastern University.
The Florida Southern College men’s and women’s cross country teams each captured first place in their respective races.
The Florida Southern men scored 16 team points as Eric Walker (25:10), Evander Jones (25:18), Lief Thomason (25:53) and Scott Mackley (25:56), finished 1st through 4th, while Trevor Step (26:31) placed 6th and Jon Alter (27:10) 10th individually, over the men’s 8,000-meter course.
In the women’s 6000-meter race, Florida Southern’s Jael Koech (22:29) crossed the finish line first, followed in the top-10 individually by teammates Carolyne Kwambai 2nd (23:08), Rachel Anderson 3rd (23:19) and Danielle Shimer (25:18) 10th for a team-best total of 16 points and the overall women’s title.
