Rampf takes SSC Runner of the Week honors

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's cross country runner Colett Rampf posted a first place finish in the Lions' first event of the 2016 season, propelling the junior to Sunshine State Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors for the week ending September 11, 2016.

Rampf won the Florida Tech Invitational on Saturday in Melbourne, Fla., posting a time of 17:59.52 on the same Wickham Park course that will host the Sunshine State Conference Championship in October. Rampf's time, the fourth-fastest 5K time in program history, was just under 11 seconds faster than her closest competitor, University of South Florida runner Kaitlyn Campo (18:10.36).

Rampf was one of three Saint Leo runners to finish among the top 10, leading the Lions to a first place team finish in the 11-team field. Saint Leo tallied 37 points, while Tampa was second with 59 points and Nova Southeastern was third with 116 points.

The SSC Runner of the Week award is the ninth for Rampf in her three-year career at Saint Leo. The native of Premnitz, Germany, captured the honor four times during both her 2014 rookie season and her 2015 sophomore campaign.

The Lions return to competition on Saturday, Sept. 24, when they travel to Gainesville, Fla., to race in the Florida Mountain Dew Invitational 5K event.
