Women’s Cross Country Earns Highest Ever Preseason Regional Ranking

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Coming off of one of the most successful seasons yet, the Saint Leo women's cross country team has earned its highest ever preseason regional ranking.  The Lions check in at No. 4 on the DII Preseason South Region ranking, it was announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Leading the way in the South Region is the University of Tampa, who claimed the top slot in last year's regional meet to earn a trip to the NCAA DII Championships.  Fellow Sunshine State Conference institution Nova Southeastern earns a spot in second in this year's preseason poll, with Alabama-Huntsville checking in at third.  The top three teams at this year's South Region championship automatically qualify for nationals.

USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by either a single member coach or by polling the region's coaches depending on the region.

Saint Leo kicks off its slate on Friday, September 6, at the South Florida Invitational hosted by the University of South Florida at The Claw golf course.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
