Women's Cross Country Places 4th at SSC Championships

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's cross country team closed out their season with a 4th place finish from the Sunshine State Conference Championships, Saturday morning from the University of Central Florida Cross County Complex. The Lions earned 109 overall points in the effort.

Saint Leo's junior Andrea Maxwell collected top team honors as she finished first for the Lions, crossing the tape with a time of 23:49.20 and placing 12th overall in the race. Maxwell's time marks the 6th fastest 6K race in Saint Leo's program history.

Also notching a place on the Saint Leo all-time fastest 6K list was senior Jillian Browne, who finished 14th in the race. Her time of 23:52.50 allowed her to beat her own personal record as well as place her 7th on the all-time list.

Finishing less than a minute behind Browne was freshman Kylie Fagan, whose time of 24:53.40 placed her 25th in the race and signaled her personal record time as a Lion.

Junior Lee Ann Antuna and freshman Shelby Adams also earned top honors as they finished in the top 40 with times of 25:45.80 and 25:48.40, respectively. Both Antuna and Adams  set 2012 personal record times in the race.

Six Lions finished consecutively as Kelsey Bradley, Elyse Snyder, Christine Hartley, Ashleigh Coad, Allison Knipe and Mariah Moss finished within two minutes of each other.

New personal records for the year 2012 were also achieved by seniors Kelsey Bradley and Mariah Moss, while freshmen runners Christine Hartley, Ashleigh Coad, and Allison Knipe earned personal records during their first year donning the Saint Leo green and gold.

"I am so proud of the seniors," said head cross country coach Melissa Miller-Mangen. "Jill broke another top-10 record and Kelsey and Mariah both ran season-bests. Anytime you have athletes perform their best at the championships says a lot. Twenty out of our twenty-two Saint Leo athletes ran season or career bests. We couldn't ask for more."

Nova Southeastern's Alexandria Palm took home individual honors in the race as she crossed the tape with a time of 21:51.80 and placed first out of 68 runners. The University of Tampa took home the team championship, however, as they finished with 27 points.

The next race on the docket is the NCAA South Region Championship, which will take place at Sharon Johnston Park in Huntsville, Ala. on Nov. 3. The runners participating in that race will be announced at a later date.
