SAINT LEO, Fla. – Competing their first home meet since the 2007 season, the Saint Leo women's cross country team placed third out of six teams, Saturday from the Abbey Golf Course. The Lions concluded with 97 points, while senior Jillian Brown earned team top honors as she finished 16th out of 57 runners.
Continuing a streak of four-consecutive races where she finished as the Lions' top-finisher, Brown posted the eighth-fastest 6K time in program history as she crossed the line at 24:10.31. She now owns three 6K program records.
Despite Browne's great effort, it was Shelby Hayes and the University of Florida that took home both the individual and team championships. Hayes crossed the tape at a time of 21:26.20, while the Gators finished six points ahead of Tampa with 21.
Lions' sophomore Andrea Maxwell also thrived on the course as she cracked the top-10 6K list crossing the tape at a time of 24:49.48. Kylie Fagan also finished in the top half of the field as she finished 25th, while producing a time of 25:14.65.
Additionally, Saint Leo runners, beginning with the 29th spot and Elyse Snyder, took four of the next seven positions. Fifth-year senior Kelsey Bradley was one of those runners as she finished with a time of 26:45.10. Shelby Adams (26:24.25) and Lee Ann Antuna (26:26.81) finished back-to-back in that same group of seven, while Christine Hartley (27:52.10), Ashleigh Coad (28:07.64), Allison Knipp (29:39.82), and senior Mariah Moss (30:06.72) put the finishing touches on the successful morning.
The Lions will return to action on Friday, October 5, when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in the Florida State Invitational. Race time is set for 6:45 p.m.
