Novotna Concludes NCAA Championships in 64th
SPOKANE, Wash. – Tereza Novotna's dream freshman season has come to end at the 2011 NCAA Championships. A native of Opocno, Czech Republic, Novotna finished 64th in the 186 person field at a time of 23:03.00 on the snowy surface of the Plantes Ferry Athletic Complex in Spokane, Wash.
"I am proud of Tereza," stated Head Coach Melissa Miller-Mangen. "The NCAA Championships are one of the most memorable events to participate in. She is already aiming for the 2012 championships to build upon this performance."
Overall, it was Shippensburg's Neely Spence who braved the 23 degree temperatures, collecting the NCAA Individual Championship with a time of 20:53.80. Augustana (SD) claimed its first-ever National Championship as they finished with a team total of 75 points.
Novotna was the third Sunshine State Conference competitor to finish in the event.
Her season comes to an end with nine postseason accolades including Sunshine State Conference Runner of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and USTFCCCA All-South Region.
In addition, Novotna solidified herself atop the Saint Leo record book with top times in both the 5K and 6K events.
An upbeat Novotna was quoted as saying, "The race was tough, but I made it. It was a great experience!"
