Lemon reaches 1,000 kills as volleyball takes down Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team was able to bounce back from a slow start to take down host Rollins College, 3-1; 19-25, 25-23, 25-11, 25-17, in Sunshine State Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Saint Leo saw senior Hope Lemon recorded her 1,000th career kill on Saturday, putting down 10 kills on the day. Lemon also added nine digs, five service aces and a block to her stat line.

Sophomore Victoria Omoregie continued her strong play, adding 10 kills on .381 hitting. She added four digs and two blocks as well. Sophomore Avery Bradshaw saw action in three sets, putting down nine kills and scooping up six digs.

Setters Maddy Powell and Anna Garrett split time once again with Powell playing most of the first two sets, and Garrett finished out the match. Powell finished with 14 assists, three kills, three digs, and a service ace, while Garret dished out 25 assists, adding 13 digs and two kills.

Annabella Arcari and Katie Adamson each put down six kills on the match, while Arcari added three blocks, and Adamson added one and four digs.

Libero Jamee Townsend scooped up a match-high 19 digs, and both Lemon and Jenya Kruglova added nine.

Saint Leo rebounded from a poor offensive performance in the first set as they put down just eight kills and Rollins tallied 14. The team only hit .138 in the opening set and were able to rebound to finish the match at .220.

The Lions also dished out seven service aces and five team blocks.

Saint Leo is now 16-8 on the season and 8-2 in the SSC. They will host Eckerd on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. Eckerd is on the Lions' tail in the hunt for first place in the conference as they sit at 7-3 in the SSC.
