SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University head women's volleyball coach Sam Cibrone has unveiled the upcoming Sunshine State Conference matches for the 2014 campaign. In their 2013 season, the Lions reached the NCAA South Regional for the fifth time in program history and finished third in the SSC with a 10-6 conference record. The Lions will play 16 SSC contests in the approaching season as they look to continue success under the leadership of Cibrone.
The Green and Gold will play a total of 32 matches in the 2014 campaign, including nine home contests and four tournaments to round out the season.
After a pair of tournament appearances to start the year, the Lions will kick off SSC play against Florida Tech. The Sep. 19 contest also represents the home-opener for Saint Leo, and is slated for a 7 p.m. start. The team will close out parent's weekend with a Saturday matinee against Lynn University on Sep. 20th before hitting the road to play a pair of tough conference foes in the University of Tampa and Eckerd College.
The Lions will host a trio of home matches for the month of October as the team will make back-to-back tournament appearances. The month is kicked off welcoming a pair of South Florida foes, meeting Nova Southeastern University and Barry University before making the short trek to both Florida Southern (Sep. 7) and Rollins (Sep. 10.
After two regular-season tournament appearances, the Lions will then make a weekend trip of opponents Florida Tech (Sep. 24) and Lynn (Sep. 25), followed by the conclusion of home October play against Eckerd on the Friday, the 31st.
Jumpstarting November action, the Lions will host national powerhouse Tampa on Saturday, Nov. 1, before making the trip down south for contests against Barry (Nov. 7) and Nova Southeastern (Nov. 8).
After their final regular season midweek game in which they host Florida Southern (Nov. 12), Cibrone's squad will finish the regular season and conference play with a home match against Rollins College on Saturday, Nov. 15 for Senior Day, when the team will honor the accomplishments of its senior athletes.
