SAINT LEO, Fla. – Head volleyball coach Sam Cibrone and his Lions' squad have announced their upcoming 2014 spring schedule. In addition to a handful of scrimmages, the abbreviated spring schedule will have the Lions competing in the Florida Southern Tournament on April 12 aswell as the Sunshine State Conference Beach Tournament on April 13.
"We are having a great spring as the team is really embracing the weight room, individual skills sessions and team practices," said head coach Sam Cibrone. "We [recently] played our first scrimmage and were able to identify some areas that we need to improve and now we are really working on them."
As the Lions prepare for the two upcoming tournaments, they will look to fill the roles left open from graduating seniors Jordan Sisson, Jaclyn Mailoto, Molly Alexander, and Meghan Donovan, who were huge contributors to the Lions' success over the last four years. The Lions will look to take advantage of the weekend tournaments in the hopes of solidifying some new positions and roles.
"We look very versatile and experienced as we will have 4 starters from last year as seniors," added Cibrone. "Plus our young talent looks very good so we are expecting them to compete for starting positions. It is a good time to be a Lion!"
Saint Leo is coming off a season in which they finished third in the Sunshine State Conference and were selected to the NCAA Division II South Region tournament. Their work in the spring months will prepare them for another competitive year during the 2014 season.
