LEXINGTON, Ky. - After a 23-10 regular season record and a berth to the NCAA South Region tournament, Saint Leo volleyball team members Jaclyn Mailoto and Lauren Campbell earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) accolades, it was announced Wednesday.
Mailoto, a setter in her senior season with the Lions, was named to the All-South Region team for an outstanding performance during her final season with the green and gold. In the 2013 year alone, has tallied 1323 assists, while notching 111 kills and 225 digs. In addition, she currently ranks seventh in the nation in Division II with 11.92 assists per set, which ranks first in the Sunshine State Conference. Along with her AVCA honor, she was recently selected to the All-Sunshine State Conference First Team.
Campbell, a junior outside hitter, ranked fourth in the Sunshine State conference with 368 kills, and earned All-SSC Second Team honors earlier this week. In addition, she led her Lions team in kills, kills per set and total attacks, while finishing second on the team in digs, and digs per set. Her performance earned her an Honorable Mention with the AVCA South Region team.
On Thursday, December 5, the pair will lead the green and gold to the Lions' first NCAA South Region contest since 2009. The squad is set to take on Florida Southern in the first round of the tournament, which will take place at the University of Tampa. The match is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.
