TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team fell to the No. 2 Tampa Spartans by a 3-1 score (25-19, 19-25, 20-25, 13-25), Saturday evening from the Bob Martinez Athletic Center on the campus of the University of Tampa. The tough Sunshine State Conference loss pushed the Lions to a 19-9 overall record, while securing the SSC title for the Spartans, who are currently undefeated in conference play.
Despite taking home a first set victory, the Lions were unable to overcome the tough Tampa offense, as the Spartans' second set victory gave them the momentum they needed to take home the match in front of their home crowd.
Junior outside hitter Lauren Campbell led the attack for the Lions' offense, collecting 14 kills in the effort. Junior Tawni Warren followed suit with nine kills, while Jordan Sisson, Meghan Donovan, and Alexa Griffith-Hardy each tallied eight apiece.
The libero, Yaidimar Santiago, led all participants in digs, with 18 on the evening. Senior setter Jaclyn Mailoto, who collected 11 digs in the match, also notched 43 assists to give her 1150 assists on the season. In addition, Sisson the Lions' defense with 3 total blocks.
The Saint Leo squad will return to the court on Friday, November 15 when they host the visiting Nova Southeastern Sharks. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
