BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's volleyball team dropped a road Sunshine State Conference matchup to the Lynn Fighting Knights, Friday night from the de Hoernie Center on Lynn's campus. After Lynn forced a come-from-behind win in the first set, the Lions fell 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-22) to drop to 16-7 on the season.
The loss signals the Lions' first conference loss since they fell to No. 2 Tampa in a 3-2 loss on October 4.
Despite a five-point lead in the middle of the first set, the home team Fighting Knights came from behind to defeat the Lions and take a 1-0 lead in the match. Lynn's momentum from the early win spurred an offensive attack that would last the rest of the game, as Saint Leo was shutout by a 3-0 score.
Both Tawni Warren and Jordan Sisson had a great offensive night, collecting 10 kills apiece to lead the Lions' attack. Senior Meghan Donovan contributed as well, notching 8 kills, while juniors Alexa Griffith-Hardy and Lauren Campbell tallied seven each.
Though she collected just one kill on the night, setter Jaclyn Mailoto notched an impressive 37 assists in just three sets to enable the Lions' attackers, who hit for .148 on the evening.
Defensively, libero Yaidimar Santiago led the Lions in digs, with 16. Campbell notched the second-highest number of digs on the Lions' squad with 12.
The Lions hope to rebound tomorrow afternoon when they take on the Nova Southeastern Sharks at 4:00 p.m. in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
