SAINT LEO, Fla. – Just two days after an exciting Sunshine State Conference win over Eckerd, the Saint Leo volleyball team returned to the court Friday night and defeated the visiting Barry Bucs by a 3-0 score (25-14, 25-14, 25-14). The win improved the Lions' record to 13-5 on the season and 3-2 in the SSC.
The first and second sets featured a composed Lions team, as Saint Leo took control and cruised to easy victories.
In the third set, however, the visiting Bucs forced an early lead, causing the Lions to regroup, refocus, and come from behind. Soon after, the Lions were back in control, ending the match in three quick sets.
Freshman Hope Lemon led the offensive attack in the contest, collecting 10 kills in just two sets played. Senior Jordan Sisson and junior Alexa Griffith-Hardy had a large impact in the match as well, tallying nine and eight kills, respectively.
Senior setter Jaclyn Mailoto notched 30 assists in the effort, giving her an astounding 716 assists for the season. In addition, she collected 12 digs, while junior libero Yaidimar Santiago notched ten.
As a team, the Lions attacked for an average of .330 in the win, while holding Barry to just a .021 attack percentage. Saint Leo also collected 41 kills and 52 digs..
The Lions will return to the court tomorrow afternoon when they take on the visiting Florida Tech Panthers in their sixth conference match of the season. The match is slated for 4:00 p.m.
