SAINT LEO, Fla. – Just days into the 2013 school year, Saint Leo University head volleyball coach Sam Cibrone announced the team's 2013 regular season schedule. The Lions will take the court in 33 matches this season, kicking off their schedule at the Grand Valley Laker Classic in Grand Valley, Mich. on Sep. 6. In typical Sunshine State Conference fashion, the Lions will face each of their conference opponents twice throughout the season, totaling 16 SSC contests.
After a two-day stint in Grand Valley where the Lions take on Truman and Grand Valley State on Sep. 6, as well as Aldelphi and Wayne State on Sep. 7, Saint Leo will head down to Boca Raton, Fla. for the Courtyard Boca Raton Invitational. The two-day tournament (Sep. 13-14) will feature games against Daemen College, Seton Hill, the University of Puerto-Rico Mayaguez, and Ft. Valley State.
The following weekend, the Lions will host their annual Saint Leo Classic tournament on Sep. 20 and 21. To start off competition, the Lions will face South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, followed by Molloy College, Columbus State University, and Cedarville University.
A few days later, Saint Leo will jump headfirst into conference action, taking the court against Florida Southern College (Sep. 24). After a non-conference match against Webber (Sep. 29), the Lions will face conference foes University of Tampa (Oct. 4) and Rollins College (Oct. 5) all in the same week. The following week, the Lions will battle Eckerd College (Oct. 8), Barry University (Oct. 11), and Florida Tech (Oct. 12).
During a short break in conference action, Saint Leo will head to Carrollton, Ga. for the Sunshine Crossover Tournament. There, the Lions will play three regional matches against Shorter University (Oct. 18), the University of West Alabama (Oct. 19), and the University of Alabama at Huntsville (Oct. 19).
Rounding out October action, the Lions will head to Boca Raton to take on Lynn University (Oct. 25) before making the short trip to Ft. Lauderdale to face Nova Southeastern University. Saint Leo will finish the month at home against Florida Southern (Oct. 29).
After kicking off November competition against Warner University (Nov. 1), the Lions will head to Winter Park (Nov. 8) and Tampa (Nov. 9) to face Rollins College and the University of Tampa, respectively. Upon their return home, Saint Leo will compete in a three-match stint against Nova Southeastern (Nov. 15), Lynn (Nov. 16), and Eckerd (Nov. 19).
Closing out the regular season with two road contests, the Lions will travel to face Florida Tech (Nov. 22) and finish off scheduled play with a match against Barry (Nov. 23) in Miami Shores.
It will be at that point where the Lions will look to return to the NCAA Tournament after a three-year hiatus.
