TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team closed out its portion of the Red Elephant Café South Region Crossover in winning fashion as the Lions defeated West Georgia 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-18) at the University of Tampa's Martinez Center on Saturday afternoon.
The victory proved to be a coming out party of sorts for junior Meghan Donovan, who was dominant in the middle as she hammered down 16 kills and hit an outstanding .789 in four sets. One kill shy of Donovan was fellow junior Jordan Sisson, who tallied 15 and hit .519 for the match.
As a team, the Lions (10-10) hit .403 overall and were successful on 61 kills. The Saint Leo defense split 18 blocks and notched 21 overall. The Lions also held West Georgia (10-13) to just a .233 attack average.
The win brings the Lions back to .500 as they prepare to tackle the second half of their Sunshine State Conference season.
Saint Leo will start that second tour through the SSC when they travel to south Florida to face Lynn University on Friday night. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in Boca Raton.
