TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team dropped identical 3-1 decisions to both Christian Brothers and Valdosta State in the Red Elephant Café South Region Crossover Tournament played at the Bob Martinez Athletic Center on the University of Tampa campus on Friday afternoon.
The day's first game saw Saint Leo fall to Christian Brothers 25-21, 13-25, 25-17, 25-19 as the Lions outhit their opponents .271-to-.203, but nine service errors and 19 hitting errors opened to door for the visiting Lady Bucs (13-5) to take the match. It was a game that was a statistical anomaly as Saint Leo dominated nearly every category, but CBU held a sideout percentage of over 60 percent, keeping Saint Leo from holding possession.
In the nightcap, Saint Leo (9-10) dropped a 19-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-16 decision to Valdosta State (13-10) where the Lady Blazers hit .285, dropped down 58 kills and had four service aces in the triumph over the Lions. Saint Leo only managed a .217 average and another five service errors again thwarted the Lions' victory chances.
The Lions will look to rebound tomorrow when they face West Georgia in the final game of their portion of the Red Elephant Café South Region Crossover. The match is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. at the Martinez Center.
