Bletso and Calderon-Reyes Earn All-Conference Honors

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Capping off their final season for Saint Leo, seniors Danielle Bletso and Emily Calderon-Reyes were named to the All-Sunshine State Conference Team it was announced by SSC Commissioner Jay Jones on Thursday morning.

The Saint Leo tandem were two of 16 student-athletes across the SSC's nine member institutions that were named to the 2011 All-Conference Volleyball Team. Tampa's Danielle Selkridge was named Player of the Year, while her teammate, Kahley Patrick, was tabbed Newcomer/Freshman of the Year. Eckerd's Courtney Draper was selected Coach of the Year.

Named as a member of the All-SSC First Team, Bletso was a mainstay in the middle for the Lions during the entire course of her four-year career.  In 2011, she led the Lions with a .352 average and 341 kills, ranking her in the top-3 in the tough SSC and 29th in the nation.  On the defensive side, she totaled 102 blocks with 36 coming on the solo side.  Concluding an outstanding career, the 6'2" native of Boardman, Ohio finished fourth all-time in kills (1,052) and blocking (424).  Bletso capped her time in the Green and Gold when she averaged 3.75 kills and a .500 attack percentage as she earned conference Player of the Week honors for the fifth time in her career.

For Calderon-Reyes, the native of Cagaus, Puerto Rico returned from a devastating injury suffered during the 2010 preseason to excel for the Lions in 2011 and earn an Honorable Mention nod on the All-SSC team.  This year, she notched nearly 400 digs (397) and 200 kills (194) and was a significant threat for opposing teams.  In just two seasons playing for the Lions, she split duties as an outside hitter and libero to tally 563 kills and 738 digs.  Along with Bletso, she finished her career with the second conference Player of the Week award of her career.

Earning All-SSC first-team honors with Bletso and Selkridge were: OH Lindsay Biggs (Eckerd), OH Megan Hodges (Rollins), MH Lauren Huber (Florida Southern), MB Alex Laton (Eckerd), and L Julie Howlett (Tampa).

Named second team all-conference were: MB Brittany Brown (Lynn), RS Ariana Chinn (Eckerd), OH Eva Dupay (Tampa), MB Danielle Graham (Nova Southeastern), S Bri Smith (Eckerd), OH Jessica Yingling (Tampa), and L Hallie Ward (Eckerd).

Libero Phoebe Corder (Rollins) was also named honorable mention.

Voting for the All-SSC team was conducted among the league's volleyball coaches and communication directors.
