MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team broke their recent winless streak in dominating fashion when they handed Barry University a straight-sets 27-25, 25-20, 25-12 defeat in Sunshine State Conference action on Friday night.
The teams came out evenly matched in the first set as the Bucs and Lions were tied through 19-19. Barry would rally to set point when they went up 24-20. The Lions, however, took four straight with the help of three Danielle Bletso kills and a Buccaneer error. The teams were tied at 24-24 and 25-25 when Saint Leo took a pair of points for the 27-25 win.
In the second set, the Lions went up 6-1 before Barry scored seven of eight points to go down 9-8 behind the Lions committing five errors. The Lions turned the second set around with an 11-3 run for a 21-14 lead. Saint Leo closed it out with four points for the 25-20 win.
The Bucs hung with the Lions for the first part of the third set as Saint Leo led 10-7 in the early going. The Lions, however, closed out the final set on a 15-5 run to take set three 25-12.
Bletso dominated the game with 15 kills and an outstanding .542 average as the Lions hit .345 as a team. Jordan Sisson added eight kills and .412 average to the winning mix.
Saint Leo will close out the 2011 season tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Boca Raton to face Lynn University. The Lions and Fighting Knights will get the final game underway at 4 p.m. For the latest news, updates, and information on Lions Volleyball, visit SaintLeoLions.com.
