Lions Drop Conference Contest to Rollins in Straight Sets

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team did not have much of a response after last night's loss as the Lions found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-20) sweep by Rollins College in Sunshine State Conference action on Saturday afternoon.  The win improves Rollins to 9-6 overall and 2-1 in conference, while Saint Leo drops its third-straight contest and falls to 6-6 and 2-2 in the SSC.

Things looked good for the Lions in the early stages as Saint Leo took a 10-5 lead in set one, but the host Tars would shut down the Lions for the remainder of the set, going on a 20-4 run to post the win.  After Rollins dominated set two, the Lions would give up a large lead in set three, but would close to within four points to try and continue the match.  It was not to be as the Rollins attack closed out the straight-sets sweeps.

Danielle Bletso led the Lions in the losing effort with 10 kills as she hit .350.  Heather Martin, notching her second-straight impressive outing, played all three sets hitting .300 and blocking three RC attacks.

As a team, the Lions hit just .070, matching a season low set last week against West Florida.

For Rollins, Megan Hodges hit .348 and connected on 11 kills to lead the hosts.  Camille Indest hit .562 with nine kills.

The Lions will return to Saint Leo and regroup before hosting Lynn University on Friday night.  Saint Leo and Lynn will get underway at 7:00 p.m. in the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
