Volleyball Voted Fifth in Conference Preseason Rankings
WINTER PARK, Fla. – Collecting 102 points, the Saint Leo University volleyball team was selected to finish fifth according to the Sunshine State Conference Preseason Poll; it was announced Thursday by SSC Commissioner Jay Jones.
Tampa has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2011 Sunshine State Conference Volleyball Championship as they amassed 189 and 14 first-place votes.
Head coach Sam Cibrone begins his seventh year and sees 11 returners from 2010 blend with four newcomers as the Lions look to regain the form from their 2009 Conference Championship season.
The Green & Gold finished-off the 2010 campaign with a 15-14 record and a sixth-place finish in the SSC with a record of 9-7.
Florida Southern placed second in the poll and claimed the remaining four first-place nods. The Moccasins tallied 174 points. Rollins weighed in at the No. 3 slot with 142 points.
The difference between fourth and fifth was extremely narrow, with Barry edging out Saint Leo. The Buccaneers received 104 points, while the Lions amassed 102. Lynn occupied the sixth spot in the poll with 91 points.
Nova Southeastern (7th, 78 points), Eckerd (8th, 64), and Florida Tech (9th, 28) rounded out the preseason ranks.
