Senior Earns Final Weekly Honor as Lions Finish 2010
SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo senior Kaitlin McKenna closed out her four-year career with the Lions in grand fashion as she was named the Sunshine State Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for the final reporting period of the regular season, ending November 14, 2010.
For the week, the native of Farmington Hills, Mich. averaged 1.3 blocks per set to help lead the Lions to two SSC victories as she helped the Lions finish above .500 for the fifth consecutive season (15-14, 9-7 SSC).
In a three-set sweep against Lynn on Friday night, McKenna had three blocks to go along with 11 kills. In a four-set victory over Florida Tech on Senior Day, she posted six blocks and 11 kills.
Her efforts at the net helped limit Saint Leo's opponents to a .121 attack percentage as the Lions kept opposing teams to just a .178 mark for the year.
Prior to the Saturday match, McKenna was honored as one of the best players in Saint Leo Volleyball history. The middle-blocker will finish her Saint Leo career as the all-time leader in hitting percentage and block assists as well as second all-time in total kills, blocks and sets played.
