Head Coach Mangen Announces Inaugural Track Schedule

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Entering into their first season of official NCAA Division II spring competition, the Saint Leo University men's and women's track teams have released their inaugural season slates, announced by Head Coach Melissa Mangen earlier this week.

Participating as an Independent NCAA DII sport, the Lions are set to compete in 12 regular season events, and will put their efforts to the test at the NCAA DII National Outdoor Championships to be held on May 22-25 at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan.

The Lions kick off their inaugural campaign on Friday, January 17, when they travel to Gainesville, Fla. to participate in the Jimmy Carnes Indoor Track and Field Meet, hosted by the Gainesville Sports Commission on the University of Florida's campus.  Competition will take place in the Steven C' O'Connell Center.

Saint Leo returns to action a week later when they travel to Daytona, Fla. to participate in the Embry Riddle Challenge, hosted by Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, to close out the month of January.

February sees the Green and Gold participate in one meet as the Lions make the trek back to the east coast to take part in the ERAU Last Chance Meet.  Both ERAU competitions will take place at the ERAU Track Facility.

The month of March has three meets in store for the Lions, kicking off with the USF Open at the USF Track and Field Stadium.  A trek to Tallahassee for the FSU Relays follows next as the Lions take part in the FSU Relays at the Mike Long Track Facility, and a trip to Jacksonville closes out March when the Lions participate in the UNF Spring Break Invite at Hodges Stadium.

The Lions see the most action in April as they participate in four meets, starting first with the Pepsi Florida Relays hosted by the University of Florida at the Percy Beard Track Facility on April 4-5.  The UT Distance Carnival follows on April 12, hosted at Pepin Stadium on the campus of University of Tampa, followed by the Tom Jones Classic at the University of Florida on April 19.  Saint Leo closes out the month with an appearance at the North Florida Invite on April 26.

The final stretch sees Saint Leo prepping for their two final regular season meets: the Seminole Twilight on May 9 at Florida State, and the Georgia Tech Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech at the George C. Griffin Track Complex in Atlanta, Ga.

With their hard work in the regular season complete, the Lions have plans to head to the NCAA National Outdoor Championships, slated to take place on May 22-25, at the Grand Valley State Track & Field Complex in Allendale, Michigan.
