SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University Director of Athletics, and the Saint Leo Department of Athletics have announced the addition of Outdoor track as a sanctioned NCAA Sport at Saint Leo University, it was announced earlier this week. The addition of track to both the men's and women's divisions brings the total number of sponsored varsity sports to 19 at University Campus.
Saint Leo University's current Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach Melissa Mangen will lead the Lions in their first season of action in 2014. The squad will consist of both a men's and a women's team, and will participate in mainly distance running events in their first season.
Saint Leo University competes at the NCAA Division II level, and is a member of the prestigious Sunshine State Conference. With 10 women's sports (Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track, and Volleyball), and nine men's sports (Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, and Track) offered to students, Saint Leo University has become an extremely competitive program in not only the Sunshine State Conference, but regionally and nationally, as well.
