WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's tennis team suffered a heartbreaker on Wednesday afternoon as they fell, 5-4, to Sunshine State Conference foe Rollins in Winter Park, Fla.
The hosts jumped out to a 3-0 lead following doubles, earning tightly contested wins at all three flights.
However, Saint Leo was able to tie up the match at three-all by taking the top-three singles matches.
Beugre-Guyot claimed a 6-2, 6-2, win over Vitanza at No. 1, while Pindelska shut down Shannon Etten, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2.
Jurkova claimed the third point with a 7-6, 6-1 win at flight No. 3. Cardenas added a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4, giving the Lions a 4-3 lead.
At flights No. 5 and 6, the two teams battles.
Gauthier fell to Savanna Fuller, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 5's, and Rollins won the match with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win by Teresa Kaiser over the Lions' Zaatini at No. 6.
Saint Leo falls to 2-4 on the season and 1-3 in Sunshine State Conference play.
The Lions have a nine-day gap between matches as they host Grand Valley State on Friday, March 10 at 3:00 p.m.
