SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 4 Saint Leo women's tennis team fell to the reigning NCAA National Champions and current No. 1 Armstrong State, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon in Savannah, Ga.
The Lions went down 2-1 following doubles with their lone point coming at the No. 2 slot. Madeleine Gauthier and Kristyna Jurkova took down Tatjana Stoll and Diana Stomlega, 9-7. Both No. 1 and 3 doubles fell, 8-1.
In singles, Jurkova took down Stomlega in the 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3 flight in her first collegiate match.
The Lions third point came from Maja Pindelska who topped Stoll at the No. 2 flight, 4-6, 7-6, 10-8.
Both Marine Beugre-Guyot and Gauthier fell but the scores of 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 1 and 5 flights, respectively, while Katherine Zaatini dropped flight No. 6, 6-0, 6-2, and Fabiola Cardenas was topped in the No. 4 flight, 6-1, 6-3.
Saint Leo returns to action as they host St. Thomas (NAIA) on Friday, Feb. 24 for a 3:00 p.m. match.
