No. 7 Saint Leo Makes Clean Sweep of No. 36 Sailfish
Lions Make Easy Work of Palm Beach Atlantic as they Conclude Regular Season
SAINT LEO, Fla. – The seventh-ranked Saint Leo women's tennis team made easy work of the No. 36 Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Saturday afternoon at the Saint Leo Tennis Center, earning a clean 9-0 sweep over their regional opponent. The Lions close out their regular season slate with a record of 17-4, while PBA drops to a mark of 14-8.
Laura Kemkes and Anastasia Wagner earned an 8-1 win over Veena Vasquez and Yoanna Peshev in the top doubles seed, while Adrianna Daszkiewicz and Maria Benkirane picked up an 8-2 win over Jessica Wharton and Maja Jovic at No. 2 doubles. Coralie Pesenti and Paula Montoya defeated Leyla Taracena and Maria Jimenez by a final score of 8-1 in the No. 3 slot to help give the Lions a 3-0 advantage heading into singles action.
Pesenti continued her success into singles, taking down No. 49 Vasquez by a tally of 6-3, 6-1 in the top seed. No. 47 Wagner picked up a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Peshev in the No. 2 slot, while Kemkes defeated Wharton 6-3, 6-1 in the third flight.
Benkirane earned an easy 6-0, 6-0 victory over Vilja Vahatalo in the No. 4 seed, while Montoya forced Jovic to retire in the No. 5 slot after a 4-6, 6-2, 7-3 battle.
Daszkiewicz took the sixth flight as she defeated Liddy Robinson 6-0, 6-0, helping Saint Leo earn its second sweep of the season.
