Seventh-Ranked Lions Make Easy Work of Eckerd, 9-0

Saint Leo Earns First Sweep of the Season, Advances to 15-4

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The seventh-ranked Saint Leo women's tennis team got back to its winning ways on Saturday morning, making easy work of the Eckerd College Tritons with a 9-0 victory at the Turley Athletic Complex.  The win marks the Lions' first sweep of the season and advances Saint Leo to a mark of 15-4 and 4-3 against Sunshine State Conference opponents.  The Tritons drop to a mark of 5-11 and 0-8 in SSC play.

The top seeded tandem of Pauline Helgesson and Laura Kemkes took down Gipson Hawn and Carson Trapp, 8-1.  Maria Benkirane and Adrianna Daszkiewicz picked up an 8-3 victory over Erika Fridrik and Emily Fridrik at the No. 2 flight, while Paula Montoya and Coralie Pesenti defeated Katie Benn and Amy Naula, 8-3 at the No. 3 position.

The Lions rolled through singles action just as easily as they did through doubles, with Pesenti picking up a 6-3, 6-3 win in the top seed over Hawn.  Kemkes earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Trapp at the No. 2 slot, while Benkirane defeated Erica Fridrik 6-0, 6-2 in the third flight.

Montoya defeated Emily Fridrik 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, with Helgesson defeating Naula by the same tally at No. 5.  Daszkiewicz made easy work of Benn at the No. 6 slot, earning a 6-0, 6-0 win as the Lions earned their first clean sweep of the season.

The Saint Leo women's tennis team returns to action on Wednesday April 9, when they host Rollins College at the Saint Leo Tennis Center, which will also be the Lions' Senior Day.  Senior Day and match time against the Tars is slated for 3:00 p.m.
